Special location solid waste collection service is offered to Omaha households were all members of the household are either 70 years old or older, or all household members have a medical condition, verified by a doctor, that prevents them from being able to move solid waste containers to the curb or alley for collection.
At the bottom of this page is a link to an application form you may complete, sign and mail in to apply for special collection service. You may wish to print this page of qualifications and guidelines which answer many of the common questions and lets you know how to contact us in the future if you have a problem with the service.
Special collection means that your garbage, recyclables and yardwaste will be collected from one special location that you choose. After you are accepted onto special collection, please do not set out any materials for collection except at the location reported on your application form. Garbage and recyclables are collected once a week on the same day as your neighborhood. Yardwaste is collected only during the months of April through November.
Required Conditions: Households on the special collection service must have the street address clearly displayed. In the winter a path must be scooped through heavy snow to the special collection location.

Be sure to fill out explicitly where you want your containers to set for collection - the contractor will be told this location so that he/she can find it.
Special collection service will begin two to three weeks after you return the application and all information is received. A City employee will call you to let you know the exact date when your special collection service will begin.
Please note that a doctor's statement must be submitted for each person between the ages of 14 and 69. Children under age 14 are not required to file a doctor's statement however they must be listed as household residents.

How Special Collection Works
Currently, our contractor picks up special collections in the same trucks on the same day as neighborhood collection, the driver may choose to collect your location with the regular route or at another time during the day. To be sure you are not missed, you must have your garbage, recyclable materials and yardwaste at your special collection location by 6AM.
Your special location can not be more than 25 feet from the back of your residence. The time of day may change, but all items should be picked up by 7PM on your collection day. Please help us serve you best by waiting to call our information/complaint line until after 7PM on your regular collection day if any of your materials were missed.
