Before disposing of bulky items, consider these alternatives

For all of these alternatives follow these simple rules. Be honest about the condition. Be safe on-line. Be respectful of your neighbors. And of course, Be Green!

Post a sign at work or church that you have something available for Free. When it's free, you'll be surprised at what people want.
List the item on-line at CraigsList.org or a Yahoo FreeCycle group
Any traffic on your street? Place it at the curb with a sign "Free." But be kind to your neighbors, remove it from the curb and dispose of properly after 24 hours. And don't set anything out when the weather will ruin it.
If it's usable/sellable item take it to a thrift store
Hold a garage sale or a free sale alone or with neighbors.

The subsidized prices for bulky item disposal are limited to Omaha Residents. Residents living outside of Omaha will pay the full cost of disposal. Tires and yardwaste are not eligible for the subsidized pricing. There is a maximum of four subsidized loads per calendar year.

Fees & Limitations

You must be able to provide the following:

Vehicle registration showing City of Omaha Wheel tax

Driver’s license

Vehicle registration exempt for handicapped, full time student & active duty military. Call 444–3908 to obtain your voucher.

If borrowing a vehicle licensed outside of Omaha, Omaha resident must be present and show their Omaha vehicle registration.

Each household may dump up to 4 times annually

A one time $10.00 administrative fee is collected at the first visit each year, and purchases 4 dump vouchers

Lost vouchers will not be replaced

Additional fees may be collected based on the size of vehicle or load

Regular size car load is typically one voucher and no additional fee (loads less than 2 cubic yards)

Pick up trucks, vans or trailers are typically two vouchers and no additional fee (loads less than 5 cubic yards)
Over size loads may require an additional fee of $6.00 per cubic yard

Excessively heavy loads (in excess of 1,750 pounds) may be required to pay $15.00 per 1,000 pounds over 1,750 pounds

Freon containing appliances will be charged an additional $10 each.

River City staff may refuse any items and any individuals, such as non-Omaha resident or commercial haulers.
